Last month we welcomed our newest local group: ACORN Burngreave!
Fed up of being neglected by the people in power, and concerns about the issues facing their community not being heard, 55 residents of Burngreave, Sheffield, recently turned out for the launch of ACORN’s newest group.
The group has wasted no time in launching their first campaign: to get the council to use the centrepiece building on the high street, ‘Burngreave Vestry Hall,’ as a much needed community space.
Despite a £5 million refurbishment in the 2000s, today it’s left empty and unused because of difficulty and high costs of hiring it out. Residents are calling for community groups putting on activities and classes to be able to use the venue for free.
Watch this space for updates from ACORN Burngreave soon!
