Membership Organiser

Community Organising Services Ltd is hiring a Membership Organiser to support the work of grassroots community organisations working for social and economic change.  

The initial year of work will be in support of ACORN, a national community union working in support of low income communities around the country. There is the possibility of supporting other, similar organisations in subsequent years. You can read more information about ACORN here, and can read the ACORN Platform here.

About the job

As a Membership Organiser with Community Organising Services Ltd, you will be responsible for building, supporting, and developing broad-based community organisations consisting of members, volunteers, and trained leaders, organised in branches in low and moderate income communities;

No previous experience is required, but we are looking for someone who can communicate well with a variety of different groups.  Support for your professional development is a priority for us and reviews, support, and feedback will be provided on your work.

Working initially in support of ACORN and then with other potential partner organisations your duties will be

  • Contacting former members to recruit as many of them as possible back into the organisation,
  • Converting supporters into dues paying members,
  • Working to ensure that members in soon-to-be launched groups are engaged and ready for the group to be launched,
  • Identifying and developing reports on the main reasons that members have left and from that, form recommendations for the future,
  • Training others in how to reduce membership cancellation in their area and ensure solid engagement from members,
  • Developing excellent winback, turnout, and engagement scripts and strategies,
  • Supporting elected leaders to enable them to carry out their roles.

Qualifications

No formal qualifications are necessary. We’re primarily looking for someone with good communication skills, a strong work ethic and the ability to persuade others.

Details

Salary: £18,018 - 19,000 depending on experience

Contract length: 1 year with possibility of extension if funding allows

Location: We are a national organisation with hubs around the UK, and there is the possibility of working remotely for the right candidate.

Interviews

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an assessment day on the week commencing January 3rd 2022, involving an interview and task. 

The successful candidate will be employed by Community Organisations Services Ltd and will work on behalf of ACORN in the first year and potentially other community partners in future years.
