As part of our End Housing Discrimination campaign, on Saturday the 16th ACORN members got 7 local letting agencies to sign a pledge that they will not discriminate against tenants on benefits!
Incredible work from our members who got the Council, Shelter and Citizen's Advice to back this campaign and add weight to our demand that agencies sign our pledge. Agencies would have no reason to sign this if it wasn't for the hard work of our members building ACORN's reputation as a fighting union in the city.
As for the other agencies we visited, some agencies said they'd take a pledge and ask a manager to sign, and some agencies refused to sign at all. It's unacceptable that letting agencies won't guarantee not to make it harder for people on benefits to secure homes! This Saturday 30th members will be once again marching together on those agencies to check whether they have signed our pledge, and hold them to account if they haven't.
We will meet at the Old Steine for a brief before march across town together. Let’s make our voices heard and let them know loud and clear that there is no room for housing discrimination in our city!
Please RSVP to this event and we will put you in touch with the organiser who will give you more info about the day.
