Come along to our community vigil for for Abdul Jabar Oryakhel, who died in the fire at Twinnell house two months ago, and to demand that the council takes action to make tower block residents safe from fire.
ACORN members started this campaign - Bristol Towers United: Fire Safety Now - in response to the fire in September and have been flyering, knocking over a thousand doors, speaking to the press, and confronting council representatives at every opportunity to demand action. While the council was initially dismissive, our actions forced them to respond! They've promised:
1. 24/7 fire wardens for 27 additional blocks
2. Published fire safety checks for every block
3. The restart of the sprinkler programme
While this is a win, its nowhere near enough, and we're demanding real action on fire safety in every Bristol Tower Block.
Join us at 11am on Saturday the 26th of November outside Twinnell House, to show the council that Bristol's tower block residents stand together.
