Branch Launches!

It’s a busy time for our ever growing union

We’re delighted to announce the launches of three new branches around the country over the last couple of months. Coventry, Islington and Bradford all had big events to celebrate with lots of fun and food, as well as some serious business plotting their next steps of course.

Coventry Branch Secretary Liam said ‘"ACORN Coventry was founded during the pandemic, when people were being illegally evicted and uncertainty over rents pushed working people to the limit. Since then we have campaigned to keep our members in their homes, stop the practice of cruel and incompetent landlords and fought hard for a Coventry that works better for us. Coventry isn't a city with big activist bases like in Birmingham or London, so to see us reach this milestone is just another reminder of what we need to do, bring the people of this city together to take what's ours."

London Organiser Kane said ‘The Islington Launch has been a great success. With tons of new members joining in the lead up from Andover Estate in particular. Residents were contending with serious challenges relating to disrepair and anti-social behaviour. Being ignored by the council. They came together through ACORN and made sure their voice would be heard. Together they got the Executive of Housing, John Woolfe, to attend the launch and made him listen to their issues. Also in attendance was Jeremy Corbyn joining to give us his blessings. We elected a new committee and set in place action plans. Within a month we had taken our first major action at the town hall securing a negotiation with senior Directors from Islington Council. The only way is up from here’

Groups become branches after growing over 100 members and until then they work with our National Membership Team to fight cases and share tips and strategies with other branchless members around the country.
