Brighton rents are amongst the highest in the country, with half of renters in the region experiencing illegal activity from their landlord. ACORN Brighton members have been fighting against one of the most powerful landlord lobbies in the country, to force Brighton Council to invest over £200,000 to support renters in the city.
ACORN have called for a number of measures including adopting landlord licensing schemes, increasing prosecutions against rogue landlords, and creating a Minimum Standards Charter for Brighton landlords. During this time, members have also won hundreds of thousands of pounds in compensation and rent reductions for our members from landlords, and have stopped numerous evictions.
