ACORN Oxford Women in Organising Training

Women are impacted especially hard by the issues we campaign on, whether that's poor housing, transport or public services. But women also often face barriers to getting involved.

To build a powerful union that truly represents our communities, we need our women members to be leading the way. So next month on Saturday 8th June we're running a training aimed at overcoming barriers our women members might face, and developing their skills and confidence to become leaders in our branch!

The training will include:

  • Discussing barriers women face in organising (e.g. more domestic responsibilities, gender-roles within organisations) and how to overcome them
  • Women-focused campaigns: how to make sure our campaigns bring in and bring up women in ACORN
  • Action skills: developing confidence with confronting targets and negotiations

Whether you're a regular at meetings or are completely new to ACORN, this is the training for you. All welcome!

Logistics and childcare

There will be snacks, tea and coffee provided, but please bring your own lunch. There will be a 1-hour lunch break, so you can also pop to a nearby shop or cafe (there are plenty nearby).

There will be a social at the venue after the session from 3:30 - 5pm. Please stick around to get to know your fellow ACORN Oxford members!

We don't want childcare needs to be a barrier to women coming to this session. If you will need childcare at the venue on the day, please let us know as soon as possible and we will be happy to organise it. Please email [email protected] to get in touch about this.

And please RSVP on this page to help us plan the session.

See you on Saturday 8th June!
