ACORN Conference 2024

In June, ACORN members got together for our national conference

‘We are stopping evictions and winning every day using our power - we’re showing that we are able to fight and win for our communities on all fronts.’ - Chelsea Phillips - National Chair

In June our union descended on Leeds for ACORN Conference 2024. Our base in Leeds at The Holbeck Working Men’s Club (the oldest still running WMC in the country!) became our conference venue and saw 200 members spend a day at workshops, talks and meeting other members from around the country.

Also taking place was our delegates conference. Each of our 16 branches submitted motions to commit the union to certain campaigns or positions and sent delegates to go and vote on them. Delegates heard motions on subjects like bailiffs and social housing and voted on how the union should act on several exciting potential campaigns.

Members came away from the day feeling more connected to the union and better skilled up for taking on the challenges that come our way. ACORN National Chair, Chelsea Phillips said, ‘Conference 2024 was an amazing day that made me truly proud to be Chair of our union. Meeting with members from all over England and Wales to strategise, socialise & strengthen the links that make our union so powerful was so inspiring. I am really excited for the future of our union and to fight alongside our incredible members’

Head Organiser Nick Ballard said in his speech opening conference:

‘2014 was the year we began. We’re ten years in and it really feels to me like we’re just getting started. We are going to bring the union to every town and city in the country.

We will defend our union brothers and sisters. We will protect our communities and we will win.

This is our mission. This is our duty and our commitment to our communities and to our class. We are ACORN, and we’re taking what’s ours.’
