Residents of a housing estate in St Judes Bristol joined ACORN to win an 18 million pound repairs commitment from Bristol City Council
After years of neglect and living with horrendous damp and mould, residents of St. Judes have won a staggering £18 million from the council to start repairs.
The residents had been ignored by the council until they joined together in ACORN to fight back. They took a number of actions to force the council to listen to them, including submitting hundreds of complaints and marching on council bosses.
Member Yasmin said: "I can't describe what a monumental win these new developments will be for our community here in St Judes. After many years fading into the background, our homes neglected and forgotten; with the much appreciated help and dedication from ACORN we banded together as residents and fought for our voices to be heard. At the end of the day, these flats are home to many complex and intricate individual lives where we raise our children and lay to rest at night. I think this is something that is relentlessly overlooked in communities like ours. But we are not just statistics on a sheet of paper or boxes to be ticked. It's brilliant to feel such hope for myself and my fellow residents of St Judes for the first time in my 7 years living here."
